Location: Long Island Jewish Medical Center, New Hyde Park, NY
An addition to the existing Hearing and Speech Center was needed to house an expanded ENT exam suite and relocated administrative offices for the Department of Otolaryngology. Challenges for this addition included an awkward site configuration with rigid setback requirements and limited square footage, along with the need to maintain existing access points, vertical circulation, and basement level services within the existing building. The new addition makes use of natural daylight by creating a light-filled connection, utilizing clerestory glass above and glazed curtain walls at either end of the new circulation axis created between new and old.
