Teaching and Education Center

Location: Long Island Jewish Medical Center, New Hyde Park, NY

In 2005, Twine Architectural Studio assisted LIJMC in converting existing labs on the ground level of their Research Building into a new Teaching and Education Center.  Included in the project scope was the relocation of the campus’ Board Room and Emergency Command Center.  New state of the art audiovisual systems allowed teleconferencing and direct communication with the Medical Center’s OR suite. The upgrades included exterior site work that encompassed the area leading from the existing parking garage to the new entrance.  A new canopy marks the entrance to the Teaching Center.  Engineering work included installation of a new air handling system, extension of the existing building’s sprinkler system and extensive coordination with electrical systems to assure that all proper emergency lighting, A/V equipment, security and Emergency Command Center requirements were met.  Completed 11 years ago, the Teaching and Education Center remains in use to this day.
