Temporary Entrance Lobby

Location: Long Island Jewish Medical Center, New Hyde Park, NY

In 2008, Long Island Jewish Medical Center was in the planning stages for a new Women's Bed Tower, to be constructed, and therefore replace, the Hospital's main entrance.  The need for a temporary entrance to the hospital campus was instigated, to be used for the duration of the new bed tower construction.  TWINE was fortunate enough to be involved in the initial planning and subsequent design for this new entrance, waiting and public toilet facilities.  Located adjacent to the existing Children's Hospital, a new bridge and arched canopy was provided to help create a separate and instantly recognizable entrance for LIJMC, a benefit to both hospitals in minimizing confusion for arriving visitors.

After passing through the new entrance vestibule, the linear path of wood-look floor tile on the right side of the corridor directed visitors to the information counter and acted as way-finding back to the existing Main Hospital elevator bank.
